I made this transition. I am developing a project in the area of computer vision -- with intensive use of drones -- to serve Brazilian agribusiness. At the moment the challenge is to gather a dataset of images of the livestock breeds and crop varieties most produced and cultivated in the region, for detection, classification, monitoring, counting. The field of work is new and promising here. From a technical and professional point of view, it wasn't particularly difficult to make the transition, because I have an extensive background in data analysis and science. The difficult part is working on sales with a new type of customer. From where I stand Computer Vision seems like a really good area to start in machine learning. Good luck!
