A Hot Dog Isn't a Sandwich
- 015a 2y agoHot take: Answering "Yes" to the question "Is a hot dog a sandwich" feels like it could be a test for autism; obsession with logically categorizing things, beyond common sense.
- TrevorJ 2y agoThis assumes that categorizing a hot dog as a sandwich is logical though.
- 015a 2y agoThat statement seriously triggers some people though; we'd walk down the path of "well, if its the bread-connected hinge that differentiates one from the other, then what about subs? Subs are universally sandwiches, so why are hot dogs different?" That's logical; but its also irrelevant as to why we categorize these things in one category versus the other.
- ForOldHack 2y agoWould 63% of people walk down the path of 'is Earth a planet?' I would ask the pluto question, and absolutely nothing would be settled, except for polesters should block every single IPIn this thread, except for the philly cheesesteak guy, he should get a years supply... Of polls.
- toast0 2y agoA Hot Dog is clearly a sausage taco. Unless the bun has broken, then it is a sandwich. IANAL, if you pay New York State sales tax, consult counsel.
- IIAOPSW 2y agoMy lawyer is going to totally nail them on the cross ex. They wrote in their affidavit that the dress was gold and white, but its clearly black and blue.

- vundercind 2y agoA hamburger may be classified as a sandwich on a menu. In conversation, less so. Nobody means hamburgers when they ask if you want to go get sandwiches. They’d say burgers.

- supercoffee 2y agoAccording to the cube rule, a hot dog is actually a kind of taco. The "hot dog is a taco" ruling is probably one of the least confounding rulings when classifying food by the cube rule. https://cuberule.com/ https://cuberule.com/
- vundercind 2y agoWould you be taken aback, or even assume you hadn’t yet spotted the item in question, if someone said they were going to bring you a sandwich and you saw them approaching with [name of maybe-not-sandwich]? That’s the best way to settle the question. (And for me, and I bet most people, makes hotdogs unequivocally not-sandwiches)
- legitster 2y agoI will accept that a hot dog is not a sandwich if you agree that a schwarma or a cheesesteak is then also not a sandwich.
- Overtonwindow 2y agoHrmm. A Philly steak is a hoagie so I’m going with that. Not a sandwich, but it is definitely NOT a taco.
- chucksta 2y agoYou will never find a cheese steak listed under the hoagie section in Philadelphia, even the cheese steak hoagie goes in the steak section.
- deepfriedchokes 2y agoIf a hot dog isn’t a sandwich and a taco isn’t a sandwich, why is a pita sandwich a sandwich? Shouldn’t a pita be a taco?
