'Almost whole island homeless' in Hurricane Beryl's wake
- adolph 2y agoBeryl remains a category 5 hurricane with 160 mph maximum sustained winds. Beryl is expected to make a direct hit on Jamaica tomorrow as a major hurricane. https://theeyewall.com/ https://theeyewall.com/
- seanhunter 2y agoI think that article is a bit out of date. It’s a bit rainy and windy in Jamaica but nowhere near hurricane force. It hit at 1am and was briefly very rainy but has calmed a lot since it devastated SVG and Grenada. Source: am in Jamaica right now and my mother is sitting outside under cover reading a book.
- stetrain 2y agoAccording to NOAA the expected arrival time of tropical storm force winds in Jamaica is 8am-2pm EDT, with hurricane force winds to follow: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov https://www.nhc.noaa.gov Although it has dropped from Category 5 down to Category 4.
- windexh8er 2y agoCorrect, at the time of writing Beryl is off the SE of Jamaica projected to hit (on the south side of the island) around 11 Eastern [0]. It will still be a Cat4 then. - seanhunter 2y agoThat makes sense. I’m on the North of the island and it’s not even raining any more (for the time being).
- vundercind 2y ago15-minute-old radar images show only the leading rain bands over Jamaica, storm proper still at sea and headed toward the island.
- adolph 2y agoGlad that you and yourn are safe and well! Here’s hoping the Yucatán and eventually Starbase fares as well.
