- piuantiderp 2y agoIf I recall there were also some Aztecs or Mayans brought to fight in Phillipines and SEA
- kragen 2y agoi'm pretty sure there are aztecs and mayas who go to the philippines and southeast asia to fight today (to fight drug lords and the dictatorship of myanmar, respectively)
- asveikau 2y agoI was recently watching some YouTube videos about early contact between Europeans and Japanese. A lot of that was contact with Portugal, and from there they had contact with Spain and Italy, so they did go to Iberian colonies in the new world.
- fuzztester 2y agoThe novel called Taipan, by James Clavell, is quite interesting, IMO. He also wrote the novel Shogun, which I didn't enjoy as much. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai-Pan_(novel) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tai-Pan_(novel) Shogun is about Japan in the Samurai period and Taipan is about Hong Kong a few centuries ago. Both novels are about those periods and about Westerners interacting with those countries at that time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Clavell https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Clavell [ Clavell wanted to write a second novel because "that separates the men from the boys".[21] The money from King Rat enabled him to spend two years researching and then writing what became Tai-Pan (1966). It was a huge best-seller, and Clavell sold the film rights for a sizeable amount (although the film would not be made until 1986).[22] ]
- anthk 2y agoLook up Coria del Rio in Spain, too. A lot of people have the "Japón" surname. "Japón" it's Spanish for Japan.
- drycobbler 2y agoJust under 2000 Spaniards have this surname, and to this day they primarily reside in Seville province, which was long the only allowed port of entry to peninsular Spain for imported goods from Spanish overseas territories. https://ine.es/widgets/nombApell/index.shtml https://ine.es/widgets/nombApell/index.shtml
- pyinstallwoes 2y agoInteresting. I’ve had a pet research project that had a lot of anomalous cultural data points pointing into ancient Japanese pollination in places where many would be surprised by today’s “standard history.” It seems there’s deep connections across South America to Japan.
