I edited down almost 3 hours of very lively talk on folks like Horace
Mann, and Aristotle's taxonomy on the stability of different sorts of
assembly. What we ended up with is the more topical and amusing
stuff... because 2024!
And I really wanted to hear from someone with a different cultural
perspective. Eastern Europe is already 'interesting', and the recent
Indian election was a dry run for lots of "deep fake fears" that
didn't materialise.

A key phrase. Are our democracies healthy and proper? But what is
practical? And what is practical in a particular epoch and culture?

In the show we talk about 'politics' as distinct from governance and
democracy. In many ways what you are talking about is the
show-business built atop actual civic process - a thing we mistake for
democracy that is just profitable entertainment.
- chiefalchemist 2y agoShow biz" I prefer to call it the Politics Industrial Complex - which also includes the dysfunctional and deceptive media. The same entities and media that refuse to admit they're part of the problem. There is no Democracy without accountability.
