Ask HN: What do you do if you hate your (large) code base
The title says it all. What do technical founders do who have large code bases and they have come to the point where there is significant technical debt hiding in some corners to the point it starts to hamper development velocity and they start to hate their code base? How do they regain happiness and productivity?
- stop50 2y agoCan you split it into different components?
- b20000 2y agoI could but will take work to do so. Maybe a few weeks. The code started with heavy OOP cuteness and ideas of globals = bad. When I was browsing the linux kernel code base I got a much better idea of how large code bases and systems can be organized.
- GianFabien 2y agoWhat you describe often leads to v2 re-write projects. Sometimes it works out well and other times not so good.
- brudgers 2y agoSpit on your hands, pick up the ax, and chop wood. The code base won't fix itself. And it ain't someone else's problem. Good luck.
