I’m thinking they should have made flash open source and iPhone should have run it. It was a pretty amazing technology.
- paulcole 2y agoThings have turned out pretty darn well without it, what’s your argument besides it being “amazing technology”? Plenty of amazing technologies don’t have a good use practical case. https://web.archive.org/web/20170615060422/https://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ https://web.archive.org/web/20170615060422/https://www.apple... Obviously one of the big complaints was it being closed. Do you really think that opening it up overcomes battery life and other issues?
- jones1618 2y agoHere's my take on this alternative reality: I wish web standards had embraced high-touch interactivity earlier using vector graphics and scripting, maybe JavaScript/SVG versus Flash/ActionScript. That would've unleashed richer interaction design (and yes, games) earlier and would've forced Apple to adopt this open standard. Flash's closed/proprietary solution gave Apple the excuse to make mobile apps a walled-garden.
