The Drone Question. Is America screwed by lack of industrial capacity?
- squircle 2y ago> fixing America's industrial problem would benefit American workers and middle class, but come at the expense of the financial and political elite. I fear that means it's going to take a lot more than some "American Dynamism" memes and investments to fix it (though that surely helps). Sounds like a win-win.
- quantified 2y agoExcept that means less profit for the financiers, so it will not happen very much. Profit by using cheap labor from poorer people elsewhere was why we sent all our manufacturing to China in the first place. The only way it works, given our incentives for profit of the owners over everything else, is for our American workers to stay relatively poor and perhaps become poorer.
- fragmede 2y agoThe problem is the FAA's regulations against drones had a chilling effect on the demand for drones, for both hobbyists and industrial/commercial use, so there isn't as much internal demand for drones to competitively drive internal manufacturing capacity.
