Ubuntu 24.10 Now Defaults to Wayland on Nvidia
- SuperNinKenDo 2y agoI can't express how pumped I am to get v555 of the driver. Haven't been this excited for something Linux related since I was about 17.
- drdec 2y agoWhat about this driver version has you excited?
- abhinavk 2y agoNot the OP but the longstanding issues with Nvidia on Linux desktop are largely fixed with more fixes coming in 560.
- Sammi 2y agoThe Nvidia 555 diver implements something called explicit sync, which fixes a bunch of issues people had when using Wayland: https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2024/04/05/explicit-sync.html https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2024/04/05/explicit-sync...
- darkteflon 2y agoSame, really looking forward to it. I enabled Wayland on my Pop 22 install last night and have set release notifications on the Pop Nvidia drivers GH repo specifically for this release, ha. Edit: Just noticed that the release (i.e. non-beta) version of 555 is actually likely to be tagged 560. So I guess it’s 560 I’m waiting for.
- dr_kretyn 2y agoUbuntu lost me with their forceful Ubuntu One marketing (ads) within the system. However, this sounds quite interesting. Might reconsider spending some time disabling everything.
