Silphium, 'Miracle Plant' Used in Ancient Greece Rediscovered After 2k Years
- ggm 2y ago...we think. well.. for some value of "we" you would hope at some point, a high-net-worth site will yield a fragment of glass or metal or pottery which has traces of DNA they can cross-correlate to the modern plant stocks. I'd love this to be true. It may be the best candidate yet. That it's related to fennel and similar doesn't entirely surprise me, because it was going to be in that family or the cruciferous ones, they have strong taste, which suggests complex plant polyphenols.
