I didn't mean that you specifically, are off. I was using a shortened form of the expression "and you're off to the races" as in, "you're all ready to go." Sorry for the confusion over that phrase.
And it's more like:
Task Manager | Startup Apps
Start menu > Start up shortcuts
Service Manager... disable services set to run on start
Registry settings for on-login and on-start up items
Multiple layers of registry settings for other run-once or run-if apps that can install or configure any of the above and make things come back.
I know Windows just fine (I've been a programmer/developer/software engineer/you name the title for 30 years), and it's become a never ending whack-a-mole every time there was a system update. And it is far more difficult to keep Windows doing what you want it to and keeping it from doing what you don't, because of Microsoft, than any other operating system. I've watched Windows go from pretty darn good to buggy, messy, and extractive. It is no longer the operating system for me, and I will happily recommend Mac to my family who, by and large, don't game.
