NYU Tandon Online Masters Students Advertise They've Got a Regular Master's
Basically I heard from a person doing an Online Master's at the NYU Tandon School that they've been told by the faculty they can advertise their masters as a regular in person one and that the certificate doesn't state anywhere that it's an online one. On top of that, they are paying only a fraction of the cost of what an onsite master would cost there.
Not only do I find that infuriating and deceitful, I also believe that it paints NYU in such a bad light and that it's no longer what it used to be. Like, they don't even require IELTS or TOEFL, just a random Duolingo test that's whatever. The person who told me about it doesn't even speak English on a C1 Level.
My question is twofold:
1. Isn't that unfair to those doing and paying for an onsite masters?
2. Isn't that deceitful in the job market? If you were hiring, would you now pay as much attention to a degree from NYU? What if the degree holder tried to fool you about how they received it?

Don't count other people's money. > Not only do I find that infuriating and deceitful, I also believe that it paints NYU in such a bad light and that it's no longer what it used to be. If your gripe is in the quality of the program, I don't think that's for one upset person to assess. > 1. Isn't that unfair to those doing and paying for an onsite masters? Your gripe is with NYU; your gripe is not with the people graduating. Don't take your gripes out on a system out on people just trying to live their lives. > 2. Depending on role, I already do not place much value in masters degrees. > What if the degree holder tried to fool you about how they received it? If the program is a master's, it's a masters. It's not for some random upset person to decide the validity of that masters.

- alex_lav 2y agoI don't have a masters of any kind. Never saw a point.
- NYUTandonScam 2y agoBesides, you missed my point, isn't it deceitful to be allowed to advertise an online masters as a regular one? Doesn't that do disservice to those who went ahead and got a regular one? I myself don't have a masters from NYU.
- alex_lav 2y ago> isn't it deceitful to be allowed to advertise an online masters as a regular one? You may think so. Luckily the validity of a degree isn't for you to decide! > Doesn't that do disservice to those who went ahead and got a regular one? Is it a master's degree? If yes, why is it a disservice? But also to be clear I believe you're a troll on a troll account so don't respond, I don't care. > I myself don't have a masters from NYU. Sounds like you have an in-person masters and are upset other people got a better deal. Which goes back to my original point, stop being upset and don't count other people's money.
- NYUTandonScam 2y agoIf it's still a masters as you put it, why would they care to hide the fact that it's an online one? Why not be transparent of it doesn't make a difference as you said?
- NYUTandonScam 2y agoNYU has the same content for their Cybersecurity Online Masters as the Offline one, but; 1. The offline accepts ~20-50 students per year, whereas the online accepts 5000. 2. The offline costs ~$70k, whereas the online costs ~$18k. Are these two the same, would you say? And if they're, why go as far as to lie about having acquired it online, when it doesn't even matter?
