Ask HN: Why aren't tablets supersets of smartphones?
Why would you want to carry both if you can just carry a tablet?
- mikequinlan 2y ago1. You can't put your tablet in your pocket; it needs to go into a backpack or case or purse of some sort. 2. Nobody wants to hold a tablet up to their ear to make a phone call. Edit: (Almost) nobody wants to hold a tablet up to their face to take a picture.
- hitpointdrew 2y agoTo add to this, I can't easily put a tablet in the console of my car, if want to use it for GPS, or CarPlay, etc.
- taylodl 2y ago1. Can't realistically mount a tablet to a motorcycle for GPS 2. Phones typically have much better cameras
- beardyw 2y ago> Nobody wants to hold a tablet up to their ear to make a phone call. No idea what device it was, but I have seen that!
- taylodl 2y agoBecause the tablet is replacing a laptop. Instead of carrying a phone and a laptop, you're carrying a phone and a tablet.
- solardev 2y agoThey don't make pockets big enough.
- eimrine 2y agoBecause a tablet is a subset to smartphones? Just carry a smartphone and a laptop.
