I disagree. I have a bet they will kill the console market dead by 2029. Most of the games run on off the shelf tech now which has Metal back ends. The hardware is rapidly evolving in capability since 2020. The Pro devices now are quite powerful. Enough grunt to do a half decent job of being a console. When that is commoditised in the mid-range, the existing market looks rather attractive to game developers. There's also an existing marketplace (app store) and the end users, from those who I know are fucked off with Sony and Microsoft. Yeah you're not going to run top end games at 4k on them but most people don't do that either. And the market for optimising them towards the large market scope makes sense.
