Apple supplier Foxconn rejects married women from India iPhone jobs
- mock-possum 2y ago> The agents and the Foxconn HR sources cited family duties, pregnancy and higher absenteeism as reasons why Foxconn did not hire married women at the plant, located at Sriperumbudur, near the city of Chennai. Gross. > Many of these people also said jewelry worn by married Hindu women could interfere with production. Gross
- TheLoafOfBread 2y ago>> Many of these people also said jewelry worn by married Hindu women could interfere with production. >Gross What is gross on it? To manufacture electronics you need to have working clothes, usually ESD complaint and hair covered again due to ESD (dry hair can generate lot of charge) but also if you are working with dumb and strong machines (CNCs, Lathes, KUKA robots) you are covering your hair to not get scalped.
- mock-possum 2y ago… just require that workers wear proper clothes and protection then? “Jewelry worn by married Hindu women” is such an oddly specific thing, like - I wouldn’t have any problem taking off my wedding ring if jobsite safety required it, why should that even be brought up? It’s a given that you dress appropriately for the job you’re performing.
- Qem 2y ago> A Reuters investigation has found that Foxconn has systematically excluded married women from jobs at its main India iPhone assembly plant, on the grounds they have more family responsibilities than their unmarried counterparts. This is how you tank your economy through population crash and get a loneliness epidemic as a gift. You punish people for having a family, they stop bothering marrying and having children, or delay it until is too late. Government should crack down hard on companies that discriminate against people with children or in fertile age bracket.
