Apple Wasn't Interested in AI Partnership with Meta Due to Privacy Concerns

- zer0zzz 2y agoIronic since meta is developing some of the best ai models you can use for inference on an edge device
- zitterbewegung 2y agoSo Apple is in a weird situation because they are in the few groups that have above 700 million active users [2] that can actually fall under this clause: Additional Commercial Terms. If, on the Meta Llama 3 version release date, the monthly active users of the products or services made available by or for Licensee, or Licensee’s affiliates, is greater than 700 million monthly active users in the preceding calendar month, you must request a license from Meta, which Meta may grant to you in its sole discretion, and you are not authorized to exercise any of the rights under this Agreement unless or until Meta otherwise expressly grants you such rights. So they have to reinvent the wheel and not use llama unless they negotiate with Meta and instead they just acquired AI companies to make local models. I don't see any Meta products that are close to OpenAI and they rather have the AI in house regardless. - zer0zzz 2y agoThanks for the context
- talldayo 2y agoWell, I'm just glad they found a more credible partne- hold on a minute... https://www.vice.com/en/article/5d9zd5/chatgpt-users-report-being-able-to-see-random-peoples-chat-histories https://www.vice.com/en/article/5d9zd5/chatgpt-users-report-...
- zitterbewegung 2y agoThis although would hurt its credibility is still an issue with a problem with sessions not being assigned to the right people.
- talldayo 2y agoI believe you, OpenAI is dedicated to security and privacy just as much as Apple is. They're the perfect match, really.
- thorum 2y agoIt probably has more to do with reputation & appearances than with specific practices. Meta is well known for its bad practices regarding privacy, OpenAI is not (yet).
