It’s just a way for people to signal that they’re rich and high status.
Those kinds of things are inherently fairly fragile so one that has endured like this one is notable.
- rsynnott 2y agoI think there is slightly more to things like this (and Ferraris and Rolexes and so on). People often think of these as _investments_, not merely a way to show off, because they have very skilfully been marketed that way.
