Planes flying from Lithuania to SE Asia mysteriously land in Iran
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- ggm 2y agoThere is nothing mysterious about turning off the transponder. This is a hyperbolic headline. "Planes bought by Iran smuggled into the country with false flight-plan and idle IFF transponder" More interesting will be which economies they can route to without risk of losing the asset, and who gets the lease money. I don't entirely understand how sanctions-busting plane owners can get their dough, but I am sure they worked that bit out. Maybe the Lithuanian Saffron harvest will be particularly HUGE this year? Or their dried lime crop? If you like fairy-floss, lithuanian pashmak is now available in rose-water flavour in every corner store... [obviously Lithuania was only the intermediate stop, the actual money flows lessor/lessee/agent are going to be to other economies and I suspect non-liquid payment is discussed but demands significant premium]
