Undergrad to PhD, or not – advice for undergrads interested in research

I’ll be hiring students in the coming cycle! If you are looking at an ultra-hot specialty for your possible Ph.D., and it is still ultra-hot when you're graduating with said Ph.D. - yeah. That is a "my daddy's a billionaire"-level of different situation that you are in, vs. a normal undergraduate. Anywhere-near-normal undergraduates should definitely look elsewhere for advice.
