I've been maintaining a "port" of an older enterprise KVM tool that was written for something along the lines of Java 6-8 and required a very minimal rewrite patch to keep working. The most annoying parts of older Java binaries are ones that used the "sun.*" packages that were disabled at some point.

Say what you will about Java, but the app actually functions -- including all the wild features like remote virtual media, audio tunnelling, etc. It doesn't look very pretty, however.
- fuzztester 2y agoI've not used Java for many years now, but earlier when I did, the "sun.*" packages were clearly mentioned as subject to change and not to be relied on, IIRC.
- knallfrosch 2y agoAnd with so many people falling into the same trap, there are usually drop-in replacement packages.
- cess11 2y agoSame goes for javax -> jakarta since the handover of enterprise Java from Oracle to Eclipse. 'find . -name "*.java" -exec sed -i "s/search/replace/g" \;' on a per package basis will likely sort things out.
