Keeping borders today is for defense, legal and tax reasons, not to define what culture lives inside of it.

- whatever1 2y agoEnforcement of law is impossible if the vast majority of the citizens are not aligned with its core values. What are you gonna do? Assign a policeman and a jail for each person within your border? The one thing that borders indeed do well is concentration of scarce resources. But again if you lose the majority of bodies who would die for this, then the border is worthless.

And people can live in places even if they're not aligned with core values but because they get monetarily compensated well enough to make it a viable compromise. Money can be worth more than values when you don't have it, since you can't pay rent and food with cultural values but you can with USD.

Also, the EU has a variety of values and laws that work with free movement. To be clear, I don’t think a borderless world can work. But I’m open to being convinced it’s at least a distant possibility.
- whatever1 2y agoNo the laws will be whatever eventually will be shaped by the majority / more vocal / powerful part of the population. The same way that every state writes laws. It just does not make sense to have laws in a jurisdiction that are not aligned with the views of the habitants. It's like passing an anti drug law in Medellin. Good luck enforcing it to the cartels of the neighborhood.
