Power consumption of Ryzen 5000 series CPUs
- jauntywundrkind 2y ago27w idle with monitor off is 3x what I've managed in my Ryzen, with the old 1700 or the new 5700x. I am just in awe at how frustrating annoying and hellish power management has been. I've wasted ghastly amounts of time trying to tame this beast, but it just does a terrible job idling. Powertop, tlp, kernel aspm powersupersave, countless more: I've tried things after things after things. Combed through the bios again and again. So few real wins, nothing like what I would have expected. Then I thought, well, if it's not something I can justify running 24/7, I'll get suspend or hibernate working so I can at least use it when I need it, without losing my whole desktop. I started out of the gate trying to get wireless wake on lan working, but pretty quickly realize even good ole failsafe/fallback hibernate isn't working?! (Maybe I just need to point at the swap partition for hibernate?) I have to 120 reset after trying to sleep! It's just been criminal how bad the power support on this system is. I tried Windows for the heck of it, and suspend & hibernate didn't work their either. I tried downtuning my rx580, and it got worse! The mclcks seem to stay pegged, so power consumption on desktop idle went from like 7w to 23w! Bah!
