Singapore doubles down on lab-grown meat as Silicon Valley backs off
- thepizzaplane 2y agoThis story made me really curious about why there is such little investment there is in lab-grown meat globally, given the huge cost of global emissions from livestock. It seemed like the lab-grown meat industry was set to take off.. why are investors shying away? Is it consumer appetites, a powerful food and or farming lobby, or are there more glamorous and interesting ways to save the planet? Should we just eat less meat?
- Ekaros 2y agoIt is really hard. Probably not cost competitive against traditional meat. I think marketing got ahead of itself and numbers don't look so good in reality.
- russellbrandom 2y agoThis is my understanding. It's a cool idea but it seems like it will always cost ~10x more than both actual meat and soy/coconut mixes like Impossible Burger. What's left is a pretty thin market, in my opinion.
