Meta releases Threads API for developers to build 'unique integrations'
- aitchnyu 2y agoReminds me of 2010 Twitter. PeopleBrowsr and other apps allowed multi column timelines, Buffer scheduled tweets, Magpie wanted to insert ads for users. Retweets and hashtags were invented by users. We didnt need to keep a key eye on the "x of 100" hourly api throttling. Link shorteners came up to conserve character count. An explosion of new apps kept asking for username and password so Twitter invented OAuth. Mobile operators like Airtel in India had a 4 digit number that forwarded SMS into your timeline. At one point, the people who built stuff on Twitter's soil were evicted and the good ideas raided and integrated into Twitter.

This always makes me chuckle as the Twitter I originally used circa 2007ish was entirely SMS based. That's how I used Twitter in the first place! Text a number, and get texted all your friends updates. Used it more like a glorified group chat for plans and scheduling before those existed.
- timestretch 2y agoI wonder, how long it will be supported? These APIs seem to have a very short shelf-life.
- rochak 2y agoThis is still alive? Thought it would be long shut down by now. RIP to the poor souls working on a dying product.
