That's got considerably better GPU (RX 550 vs R5 230), and also more storage. Very expensive even so if it's the old SG2042. Interesting and unexpected (so early) if it's the bug-fixed SG2044 with RVV 1.0. But still, most people will be better off with SG2380 with 16 cores, each at least twice as fast, when that arrives.

  Thanks a lot Bruce, this is definitely good to know. Yeah, both systems are not exactly cheap... I want to have a 64-core machine for research in runtimes for massively multithreaded applications, so the SG2042 still doesn't look too bad IMHO.

    Then get the Pioneer, fully built system or bare motherboard, your choice. https://www.mouser.com/c/embedded-solutions/computing/?m=Milk-V https://www.mouser.com/c/embedded-solutions/computing/?m=Mil... If you don't care about Vector then it's a fine machine. Or if you don't mind writing either vector asm by hand, or using the C intrinsics interface with GCC 14 (identical C code can target either RVV draft 0.7.1 aka XTHeadVector or RVV 1.0). If, of course, you have code that can actually use all 64 cores.

On the subject of Milk-V, the Oasis[0] can be preordered. I did that, fingers crossed. Serious specs on the SoC there, SG2380, starting with the main CPU cores; they are P670, these are RVA22+V cores from SiFive with serious performance, faster than e.g. the Cortex-A76 in Raspberry Pi 5.
