Completely agree with you! Its a frustrating market for sure, but there is lots of money to be made, with the right strategies, and very little money with the wrong strategies. I was doing a similar thing to you for a year or so, by piggybacking off Atlassian JIRA, as opposed to building my own products. This definitely made selling the solution much, much, much, easier!
