Like the iPad, it's such a developer-hostile system to work in many devs aren't willing to take the risk of risking time and money in an ecosystem where Apple can sherlock you or just refuse your updates for any arbitrary reason and where users have been taught that software should be disposably cheap.
- afavour 2y agoI’d throw a [citation needed] on that. The App Store has, by all accounts, been a runaway success despite all the limitations you’ve listed. By and large devs are very happy to make apps within this system.
- cageface 2y agoThere are very few of the big productivity apps that would justify the expense of the Vision Pro. Every review of the new iPad basically takes the same line. Fantastic hardware, pity about the limited OS and lack of apps.
- talldayo 2y ago> The App Store has, by all accounts, been a runaway success Except on the only platform that doesn't enforce it as the sole app store, MacOS. Holy cow, can you imagine trying to set up your Mac with only the App Store for installing software? How many people could do their day-to-day job, like that? Extrapolating from MacOS it really feels the other way around. On iPadOS in particular it's become a running joke how hard Apple arbitrarily tries to stop you from using their tablet computer hardware like a laptop.

- aurareturn 2y agoThe App Store has made a lot of developers a lot of money. There are tons of billion dollar gaming companies for example. One viral game on the app store with a few cosmetic upgrades can net you a billion dollars.
- cageface 2y agoMost of that is games or mobile apps with limited scope. If Apple wants the Vision Pro to replace our Macs it needs a different approach. One look at the wasteland that is the Mac app store tells you everything you need to know.
