Intel Delivers Leading-Edge Foundry Node with Intel 3 Technology, 5N4Y on Track

- thunderbird120 2y agoIntel 3 is an economically interesting node. Performance seems to be somewhere between TSMC N4P and N3B which is respectable but Intel 18A is due very soon after it debuts and incorporates GAA transistors and backside power delivery. It seems like Intel 3 is intended as an option for customers who need something very modern, but not absolutely cutting edge. I guess we'll see how much volume it actually gets over time.
- kristianp 2y agoAnd yet their upcoming Lunar Lake processor is using TSMC N3B [1]. [1] https://www.anandtech.com/show/21425/intel-lunar-lake-architecture-deep-dive-lion-cove-xe2-and-npu4 https://www.anandtech.com/show/21425/intel-lunar-lake-archit...
- wmf 2y agoXeon 6xxx (shipping now) uses Intel 3. I don't know why Lunar Lake uses TSMC but in retrospect it could have used Intel 3. Some people have speculated that Intel ordered TSMC capacity years ago and now they have to use it or lose it.
