When I took Dan Freed's algebraic topology course, one time he asked us if two spaces were the same. Then he looked at us for a moment and said that actually that was a "Bill Clinton question: the answer depends on what the meaning of the word is is".
- 082349872349872 2y agoThere's a (n improper) coarsest universe where anything is the same as everything else. (which reminds me of the buddhist monk at the hot dog stand: — Make me one with everything — Here ya go bud — Uhhh ... I gave you a twenty? — Change is an illusion ) EDIT: and Ireneo Funes (the Memorious) inhabits that other improper, finest, universe where nothing is the same as anything else. (OnlyNaNs?)

- BalinKing 2y agoMaybe I'm totally lost, but this thread of self-replies makes me suspect a Markov chain generated them or something like that. The same is true for some—but not all—of your other comments, which feels really weird to me. Of course, maybe I'm way off base, and what you're saying makes total sense and is just going over my head. I wonder if dang (or another mod) has already seen this....
- 082349872349872 2y agoI suspect vinnyvichy may have been "conversing with gods and ghosts" ... but until I manage to translate that page I shan't be sure :-)
- vinnyvichy 2y agoIndeed I would have most preferred "spirits & spectres" because that one has a neutral connotation in Chinese. The referent of your 三殺法, "kill the buddha-spirit, kill your demised-forebears"《临济录》(written back when Taoism had not been fully differentiated from Buddhism) was way more suicidal in ideation..
