You’re victim blaming.
- beardyw 2y agoIs there never a case for that? If I leave my wallet on a table in a public place am I without blame if it gets stolen? She says that what she does is perfectly normal, and then ends by saying she should be protected. Don't store stuff on a device you carry about in public which you would not want others to see. It's simple.
- wumeow 2y ago> If I leave my wallet on a table in a public place am I without blame if it gets stolen? Yes? There’s many places in the world where you could expect your wallet to be returned to you or left alone in that scenario. Such places aren’t afraid of ascribing agency to criminals and treating them like the scum they are.

- wumeow 2y agoSay her laptop was encrypted, but with a weak password. Would she still be to blame? Say her laptop was strongly encrypted, but she hadn’t updated it in a year and they used a security vulnerability to gain access. Would she still be to blame? I guess I’m old-fashioned, but I blame criminals for the crimes they commit.

Darwin awards exist for a reason: You can blame a victim if they're ignoring all common sense. What if she: Goes for a hike at the Grand canyon, with no water, becomes dehydrated, and dies. Smokes and drinks her entire life, suffers a massive heart attack, and dies. Rides a bike to work with no helmet, is hit by a truck, and suffers permanent brain damage. Invests her live savings in NFTs and has to declare bankruptcy. Victim blaming is OK with me in all of these scenarios.
