So i have question to HN too, what a good ways you know to backup GitHub repo with all stuff from there?
I tried a gitea, but it may only copy repo once, but not sync changes.
- hammyhavoc 2y agoGitea does mirroring—I use it, but not to backup, but to work within a specific workflow on certain repositories.
- andrewstuart 2y agoIts interesting to me that companies literally bet the entire company on there never being any problem ever with their github repos. There's an assumption that it is simply impossible to lose the data that you store in github.
- vitonsky 2y agoHuh, we see an arguments against of this point every year. The projects like https://yuzu-emu.org/ https://yuzu-emu.org/ (deleted from github and now lives as https://suyu.dev/ https://suyu.dev/) or youtube-dl (been suspended on github for some time), a lot of developers from Russia and another countries under sanctions also been blocked. Github is a place for communication with dev community, but it is definitely not a safe place for backup the code.
- pabs3 2y agoThere is github-backup for code/issues/etc, but it doesn't restore to other systems nor back to GitHub. https://github-backup.branchable.com/ https://github-backup.branchable.com/
- kingkongjaffa 2y agoYou could use multiple services for redundancy, ie keep a repo on github/gitlab/bit bucket, i think they all have import / export features into each other to keep issues and stuff
- t_believ-er873 2y agoLook at GitProtect.io for DevOps tools. It allows to back up all the repository and medata.
