I wish the politicians who enacted this ban were themselves forbidden from using or benefiting from any of the products or services that they banned advertising for.
- Retr0id 2y agoWhy?
- josephcsible 2y agoBecause it's a really bad double standard when the ruling class says "you should stop doing these polluting things, but we want to keep doing them."
- Retr0id 2y agoThe only "victim" here is SUV vendors (and to a lesser extent, billboard owners), which I'm perfectly fine with. People can still buy SUVs if they want to.
- loloquwowndueo 2y agoWhat makes you think they are not? Also it’s not like they’re banning existing SUVs or SUV sales altogether, just looking to reduce visibility a bit. They and anyone who knows they really need an SUV can still go buy one.
- treyd 2y agoThe extent to which this could be enforced would be fine, actually. These products/services should be phased out already, if not fully banned.
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoSo instead of letting people choose through supply and demand the conveniences and trade offs they want, you want to force your will onto them through authoritarian censorship and bans?
- treyd 2y agoEspecially in the case of the heavy carbon emitters, yes this is ultimately one of many necessary steps to avert climate disaster. No person is having their right to free speech infringed and the bans actually serve the common good. It's a pretty reasonable compromise.
