- WarOnPrivacy 2y agoSynopsis: 2,147,483,647 is a Mersenne prime (a prime number of the form Mₙ=2ⁿ-1) and the largest 32-bit signed binary integer (which blew up some date fields on 1 Jan 2022) Cool coincidence or mathematically relevant? I dunno. Going with the former because proving a pattern consumes energy - but a false pattern consumes energy doing nothing.
- WarOnPrivacy 2y agoI struggled with understanding Mersenne primes here because 1) 2ⁿ-1 is odd numbers and primes so what's special about that? and 2) Because I have no memory of being taught that subscript denotes position in a set. So I guess I blew past the Mₙ= part.
- commandersaki 2y ago(1) is not true, for example 2^6 - 1 = 63 which has a factor 3^3.
