It's crazy that you are charged for traffic using AWS hosted services per default and need to actively take measures to avoid this. Also the myriad of options and the very restricted capability of some services/resources (e.g. egress gateway only with ipv6) are confusing. I am using "VPC endpoints" (aws_vpc_endpoint in Terraform) to avoid the above scenerio (charging for traffic to AWS services). They are not mentioned in the OP article. Are they the same as VPC endpoints and what's the best practice?
