When you make something from stainless steel, you should be choosing the correct SS grade for your application given the environmental constraints. I don’t know of any industrial SS application that relies on anti-corrosion coating (presumably consumable) instead of the actual formulation of the specific alloy.
(I am not insinuating that Tesla did not do this, as I have no clue and I am not up to date on all things Cybertruck.)
- SkyPuncher 2y agoExcept, coating are literally the standard for all modern vehicles. Chances are your vehicle’s panels are standard steel with a layer of paint and clear coat. That clear coat layer is extremely resilient and largely sufficient for protecting the underlying surface.
- ComputerGuru 2y agoI don’t see what typical cars’ coating has to do with this. I am specifically talking about when you are already using SS.

Oil and gas, marine, pharma, and chemical processing in general. Those are just the ones I’m familiar with. Coated SS is a cheaper alternative to titanium when they can get away with it. Did Tesla then chose a cheap alloy and cut the corners on coating?
- namaria 2y agoSome 'influencer' in São Paulo just bought one. First cybertruck in Brazil as I understand. Looking forward to the discombobulation saga on that one. He lives in a poor region of the city as well, has hired security for the truck. I kid you not.
- coffeebeqn 2y agoShould be easy to find if stolen then
- namaria 2y agoYeah, finding stolen property is not the bottleneck in upholding the rule of the law in Brazil
