- SilentBang 2y agoI should also and the most longest too :P But also WTF systemd?
- LargoLasskhyfv 2y agoWaddabout? Can't hear ya. Did ya see https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_without_systemd https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_without_systemd , https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Runit https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Runit , https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/S6 https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/S6 , https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Mdev https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Mdev , https://github.com/slashbeast/mdev-like-a-boss https://github.com/slashbeast/mdev-like-a-boss ? You could 'rice' ( https://web.archive.org/web/20160430183339/http://funroll-loops.info/ https://web.archive.org/web/20160430183339/http://funroll-lo... , https://wiki.installgentoo.com/wiki/GNU/Linux_ricing https://wiki.installgentoo.com/wiki/GNU/Linux_ricing ) this up even further by using Paludis and Exherbo instead ( https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Paludis https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Paludis , https://paludis.exherbolinux.org/ https://paludis.exherbolinux.org/ , https://www.exherbolinux.org/ https://www.exherbolinux.org/ ). Don't take this too personal, just messing with you. Gentoo IS good (enough)! Really. Congrats.
- SilentBang 2y agolol
- 77pt77 2y agoTry doing it in 2002 with old hardware. Xorg took forever, especially the fonts for some reason.
- SilentBang 2y agoFunny you should mention it, that was the first I tried, and I never tried again. Only until just recently had I even had the thought. Needless to say I was not successful my first try.
- 77pt77 2y agoI used it up to like 2010 or so. Maybe 2013. The hardware was much better but compilers got far more complex and it didn't get that much faster. Still the best thing you can do after linux from scratch. A shame that drobins tried to push his creationist agenda one time too many.
- LargoLasskhyfv 2y agoBeen there, done that. Did the same with Net-&FreeBSD. Not so much with Debian, there it was just apt shred --dist-chainsaw, or something like that ;->
- 77pt77 2y agoAnd then: > Type this sentence in all caps!
- LargoLasskhyfv 2y agoShould have tried https://linuxfromscratch.org/ https://linuxfromscratch.org/ instead. Gentoo is mostly just BLFS and ALFS from there, with more available packages, and centralized 'USE FLAGS' ( https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/USE_flag https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/USE_flag ) which could be considered one of Gentoos USPs.
- SilentBang 2y agothank you!
