Is the Cult of Homepages Over?
I remember the “cult of the home pages” in the 90s and early 00s, for about 20 years there was a fashion for them.
Later it all disappeared somewhere, It's like the internet has shut down, people went to social networks, where the same memes and videos circulate in circles. there is nothing new.
Is it has become too difficult for people to do this?
So where did the home pages go? Has it become very difficult for people to create them? are the geeks gone? nerds? IT people? Is this not interesting for young people anymore?
The home page of an IT specialist can tell me a lot. he spent perhaps dozens of hours making sure his resume looked juicy, interesting, and provocative.
I’m not saying that they are not created at all, but there are practically no new pages, I find old ones from 20-25 years ago, and almost no new ones. Is the era of homepages over?
- joobadze 2y agoyou asked an interesting question, I didn’t even think about it, in some ways I agree. maybe it's a matter of commercialization? have people stopped doing things not for money, but for the sake of interest?
- Turboblack 2y agoMaybe. When I see pages full of banners, despite the fact that there may be useful information there, I try to avoid such sites.
- 082349872349872 2y agoHave you tried https://search.marginalia.nu https://search.marginalia.nu and https://explore2.marginalia.nu https://explore2.marginalia.nu ? > We must be as stealthy as rats in the wainscoting of their society. It was easier in the old days, of course, and society had more rats when the rules were looser, just as old wooden buildings have more rats than concrete buildings. But there are rats in the building now as well. Now that society is all ferrocrete and stainless steel there are fewer gaps in the joints. It takes a very smart rat indeed to find these openings. Only a stainless steel rat can be at home in this environment... (maybe also normal search engines with different scripts? I don't speak japanese well enough to know myself, but I've heard via HN that there's a thriving homepage/not-really-so-public-facing-niche-site/smolweb scene over there)
- Turboblack 2y agothis is an amazing find! thanks a lot
- dave4420 2y agoSomehow an abandoned profile page on Facebook or LinkedIn is less embarrassing than an abandoned home page.
- Turboblack 2y agodoes abandoned mean unfinished?
- dave4420 2y agoIt means “not being kept up to date”. I don’t think it means “unfinished”.
