Reminds me of the Pepsi navy.
- consumer451 2y agoFor anyone wondering, PepsiCo has a very interesting history with Moscow. > In 1989, PepsiCo Inc., the maker of Pepsi, acquired 17 submarines, a cruiser, a frigate, and a destroyer from the Soviet Union. https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/11/27/pepsi-navy-soviet-ussr/ https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/11/27/pepsi-navy-soviet-ussr/
- ungamedplayer 2y agoI mean . Was it going cheap? I wonder what the depreciation schedule is for submarines.
- recursivecaveat 2y agoSo cheap it didn't cost them a dime :P (They were scrap-metal payments in kind for Pepsi products, because the ruble was a closed currency and the soviets didn't have much foreign currency)
- Arrath 2y agoPepsi had a chance to kickstart the Snowcrash weirdo corporate microstate world and instead they sent their navy right to the scrappers. Cowards.
- Modified3019 2y agoWhat’s hilarious is several years later, they gave themselves a headache with military hardware in a commercial, a Harrier. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_v._Pepsico,_Inc https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_v._Pepsico,_Inc.
- justinclift 2y agoSuper bad naming for a military force. "Pepsi" of all things. ;)
- defrost 2y agoThey try harder you know.
