'Elon Doesn't Care About Tesla Anymore': Musk's Biggest Fans Are Turning on Him
- taylodl 2y agoDoesn't matter. Elon got his money and now is laughing all the way to the bank. The Cybertruck has been a disaster and Tesla's model lineup is now showing its age. To top it off, the US domestic market still isn't sold on EVs - Europe is, and Europe isn't applying 100% tariffs to BYD. Where does that leave us? US domestic EV growth is at a standstill, which isn't being helped by the Cybertruck fiasco, and the EU is about to get deluged with BYD. Things aren't looking good for Tesla for the next couple of years. Honestly, I believe Tesla would be better off without Elon, but they've made a deal with the devil - now it's time to get burned.
- belter 2y agoThe car sales don't matter...because...its not a car company... "Elon Musk insists Tesla isn’t a car company as sales falter" - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-insists-tesla-isnt-a-car-company-as-sales-falter-150937418.html https://finance.yahoo.com/news/elon-musk-insists-tesla-isnt-...
- taylodl 2y agoI know you're being sarcastic, but as I'm sure you know, that's even more problematic - Tesla doesn't know what business they're in! As far as autonomous ride sharing goes, Tesla is well behind their competitors, competitors who've been building their brand in the ride sharing space and are expanding into autonomous ride sharing. Who thinks of Tesla when they think of ride sharing? Virtually no one. If autonomous ride sharing was their killer feature all along, then focusing on EVs all these years was stupid. Which tells you this is yet another Musk lie. Tesla is failing. Elon knows it, and now he's secured his wealth while Tesla's investors go down in flames. Well, at least they're providing plenty of material for the business schools for the remainder of the 21st century.
- belter 2y agoIn the meanwhile, the stock pumping will go to levels unheard of... "Elon Musk says Tesla robots will power the company to a $30T market cap" - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40683120 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40683120
- taylodl 2y agoThe questions Elon hasn't answered about Tesla's robots: 1. Why would I need one? 2. Why would I buy it from Tesla who is now renowned for poor manufacturing and poor customer service at scale?
- chokolad 2y ago> Tesla's model lineup is now showing its age. What do you mean by that? Model 3 and Model Y were updated this year.
- mullingitover 2y agoThe Models 3/X/Y/S are all basically minor variations of the Model S that's been around for twelve years. This year's 3 and Y updates aren't new generations, they're superficial cosmetic changes.
- tgma 2y agoBy that metric iPhone 15 is a minor variation of iPhone 4. That doesn't seem to have hurt Apple. Arguably the new S and X are built on the new 3 architecture from 2018 not the other way around.
- hammyhavoc 2y agoSurprised nobody brings up the numerous recalls of Tesla, especially the recent seatbelt one. All this rightfully knocks confidence in the brand—like Lancia having to pull out of the UK after their rust issue ruined their rep.
- quantified 2y agoSince that was written, Musk's other biggest fans voted him an enormous stock award. Let's see which fan club really matters. You could say that the fans who voted for the package are true fans, they really want him to succeed (for himself, anyway).
- RecycledEle 2y agoFirst, Elon Musk has proven he will spend his profits to help his companies, so those tens of billions of US dollars will be invested somewhere. He is not going to just buy himself drugs and McLaren cars. Second, always take Elon Musk at his word. He says Tesla's greatest opportunities are their Optimus android and their Robotaxi. Neither of those is a car Tesla will sell. So cutting back on producing cars as unsold inventory might be piling up is a good move. Most people could not imagine pivoting Tesla away from selling cars, but Elon Musk would do it after a few hours consideration.
