Microplastic concentration is highest in the lungs, but can also be found in the blood. As far as I know, we do not know how long they persist in the lung, blood, or body more generally. Given their ubiquity, and their endocrine disrupting properties, I highly suspect that the rise in autism prevalence may in part be attributed to the prenatal exposures to microplastics, during which timing and dose effects of androgens exposures have set-up long lasting programs of development.
