Agrippa (A Book of the Dead)
- nneonneo 2y agoOh hey, I was the one who cracked the encryption scheme on Agrippa. A fun afternoon diversion! My writeup is here: https://www.robertxiao.ca/hacking/agrippa/ https://www.robertxiao.ca/hacking/agrippa/
- RF_Savage 2y agoNice work. Homebrew crypto and Lisp, sure a product of it's time.
- kilpikaarna 2y agoOh wow! I'd obviously heard about this (in the context of Gibson's bibliography) but didn't know about the packaging aspect or different editions. Also had never seen a recording. Didn't realize it's so...spartan? Just a black-and-white window of scrolling text. In my mind it always had some VGA-style background graphics, and music, like a demoscene PC diskmag. But I guess 1992 might be a little early for that, and especially if you're putting something out for the New York art crowd, yeah do it for Macintosh.
- LiquidSky 2y agoIt was partially created as a meditation on the death of Gibson's father who had died when Gibson was a child so I can see why it would have a very sparse, somber aesthetic.
