Very few Americans have much familiarity with Russian language at all.
When this was written during Soviet times, and the Hollywood movie made, it was far fewer, so mostly people did not get the connection whatsoever.
If you ask a Russian how they are doing, if they are doing well they respond positively with a word that sounds just like "horrorshow".
No differently than they did under the Tzars, Lenin and Stalin.
Everything behind the "iron curtain" always been completely horrorshow, as much as it could be.
- alamortsubite 2y agoThis is interesting, and makes me wonder how they translated "horrorshow" in the Russian edition of the book. The Wikipedia entry on Nadsat touches on its translation briefly at the end of the Description section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadsat#Description https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nadsat#Description
