Tokutek uses Fractal Trees which have several SSD-friendly properties: http://www.tokutek.com/ http://www.tokutek.com/. Unfortunately, I don't have any first hand experience with it. If you want an interesting challenge, you could also try implementing a MySQL storage engine using LevelDB. Obviously basic implementation shouldn't be too difficult, but getting good performance and reliability would require some effort.
