Show HN: Castiron – Simple podcast player in Rust
Hi all!
Castiron is a super simple podcast player/manager I am building to learn Rust. It uses the iced [https://iced.rs/ https://iced.rs/] GUI library.
Currently the feature set is pretty slim, but you can:
- Sync feeds
- Download episodes
- Queue episodes
- Play/pause
- Switch themes
I welcome contributions or feedback on how to improve this application and the underlying code.
- palata 2y agoIt's a nice project to learn a language!
- stevenrcalhoun 2y agoI agree, it has been a nice project because it requires using io, async, and plenty of combing through docs since iced is pretty new.
- jenadine 2y agoI'm interested on how was your experience with Iced, and why you picked it over the other GUI options in Rust.
- stevenrcalhoun 2y agoThe experience has been good overall, with the only challenges being the lack of documentation and optimization that comes with a new project. It is not optimized for performance, which they have acknowledged. It looks like they're making significant changes and will likely address this soon. I chose iced primarily because it kept popping up when I searched for libraries to use, and System76 is using it for their CosmicDE (although I'm sure they've added a ton to the version they're using). The Elm architecture is new to me, but coming from React, I could wrap my head around it pretty easily.
