EU threatens China EVs with tariffs of up to 38%
- cabirum 2y agoCan't compete no longer, can we?
- jacobp100 2y agoChina subsidised their EV industry a while back when they couldn’t compete with western ICEs
- onemoresoop 2y ago> Can't compete no longer, can we? Different COL that in China, different wages, subsidies, etc.
- rad_gruchalski 2y agoWe gave them the tech away (and they took some), and now they come back with cheaper stuff. Fair game.
- cabirum 2y agoJust gave tech? Like, for free, for the sake of it? Not because the west exploits cheap labour to produce cheap goods for increased profits and to keep the high wages? (Next you will argue that gives them jobs where they had none haha.)
- rad_gruchalski 2y agoYeah, they got paid what they asked for. That doesn’t change anything.

- AngryData 2y agoOne of the largest expenses by consumers, and singled out so people can't take advantage of the market to save money. But of course most every other good is fine coming from China or other cheaper places, goods that would employ far more people if produced locally than auto manufacturing, but have lower profit margins so the capital holders at the top aren't wealthy enough to influence politicians and legislation.
- gravescale 2y agoBig things have to be expensive (houses and cars, they're working hard on education and health) or money will pool up down here and won't trickle back up to where it belongs.
