Wasn't there some adage about war time and peace time CEOs?
Anyhoo, Tesla's wartime is over, no more "bankwupt" memes, no more production hell, all the models in the "SEXY CARS" line up have been launched.
So fire Elon, let him become Tesla Chairman again, hire a new CEO, and start the new phase.
----
However, that said, all these people/organizations quoted in the article (Gerber, Koguan, CalPERS etc) benefited greatly form Elon's wartime activities.
He stayed in the factory overnight to fix production problems and whatever else was required, they didn't. His magic was relevant in causing the share price to moon.
You benefited from him, now pay the Elon Tax. Pay his share package, no matter how high, and THEN let him go.
I have no sympathy for shareholders who benefited massively from efforts but now suddenly pretending to be all moral.
Atleast short sellers were honest in their hatred, shareholders suddenly finding Jesus when the share dilution became real are filthy hypocrites.
Elon was always like this, you just couldn't hear it over the KACHING! the share price rise made.
_____
It would be hilarious though, if they refused to pay, Elon is double-dared to quit and he actually does, causing share price to crater and the tech staff quits like how it was after Altman and Open AI.
I would love to get my popcorn ready for that.
- techostritch 2y agoSeems odd to me to promote the idea that in a highly competitive capitalist environment, investors should dilute their own shares to be… Nice? Musk would fight this tooth and nail if it was someone else’s pay package.
- ryzvonusef 2y ago> to be… Nice? to pay what's due. Capitalism, you got something, pay up. CEOs are paid stock instead of cash because of, among other reasons, goal congruence. Elon was given different conditional tranches, worth about~ $2.5bn in 2018, specifically if he turned into $56bn, or he got nothing. He did that, he got rich and by proxy, so did these shareholders. Gerber and Co went to all the news channels to promote him, he wasn't weird then. They can pay the piper now.
- techostritch 2y agoThe agreement was voided, nothing is “due”
- Zigurd 2y agoNot only was the agreement voided, it was voided for reasons that call into question the composition of the board and their duty to shareholders. The way this defective agreement was created was sloppy AF. The board didn't even go through the motions of compliance when it was drafted and approved. Ii suspect they got used to getting away with things because they prevailed in the Solar City suit.
- rurp 2y agoRight, just like Elon always pays laid off employees the severence owed to them, and always pays contractors and suppliers promptly and fairly. Oh... wait. The pay package got struck down because it was a corrupt deal to begin with. Nobody is obligated to honor that just because Elon and his sycophants want them too. He is almost certain to stay checked out of Tesla regardless of what happens with the shareholder vote so even on pragmatic grounds it makes no sense to approve it.
- ryzvonusef 2y ago> Elon and his sycophants His sycophants ARE the shareholders! All these people (Gerber etc) were Elon Fanboys, they promoted him and polished him off. They went to news channels and youtube videos promoting him, and they earnt massively. See, if they were like the Nordic investment fund, who refused to approve the package last time, then I respect them for their honesty. But to go "oh boohoo, these poor shareholders didn't know, the board tricked them" They bloody knew, every one from these big Investors down to the small retail youtube influencers, they knew precisely what was in store. They were all in on this greed. I don't care about Elon winning, I want these hypocrites to pay up. It makes every sense to make the shareholders pay up, they were complicit. I hope Elon wins, and these Gerber and co lose, and then they put the money where their mouth is and start actually influencing the board. Oh you don't like Elon's influence? Well you guys have big holdings, start forming the board as a properly independent board. Oh, you don't like Elon's decisions? Be a grown up and vote him out. These shareholders want all the benefits of Elon's cult without paying for it, they can't have it both ways. They can either start voting to correct what they claim is wrong, or they can sell the shares and leave. I hate shareholders who talk one way but vote another way.
