Raspberry Pi IPO
- blitzar 2y agoGreat to see charities bringing their charitable goods to the stock market.
- mojomark 2y ago100%. After seeing this comment, I'm shocked to learn that even in the US, apparently non-profits can issue stock (in a small subset of states anyway). What the hell is the point of owning a stock if not for profit? Just issue a donation if you want to contribute moreney to a charity. Seems very disingenuous.
- tankenmate 2y agoRPi Holdings is not the same organisation as Raspberry Pi Foundation.
- daemin 2y agoYou own stock so you can tell the organisation what you want it to do, after all you are an owner of the organisation if you own stock. Same goes for regular companies as well, the stock holders can tell the company what they want done, it doesn't have to be profit (though it pretty much always is), it can be saving the environment, going to explore space, etc.
- renw0rp 2y agoSlightly tangential, but if anyone is wondering how profitable could be running a charity in the UK: https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/charity-search/-/charity-details/5002372 https://register-of-charities.charitycommission.gov.uk/chari... Last section shows salary breakdown for top (60k+) earners. TLDR: Eben earns £450-500k and most probably his wife is somewhere there at £150k+

- blitzar 2y agoTurns out those are the total remuneration for employees at the charity and all its subsidaries (i.e. charity and commercial arms) - thats how much tech in the UK pays.
- smcleod 2y agoThis is a shame, the customer will now be the shareholder rather than the purchaser of the product.
- Elfener 2y agoPrepare for raspberry pis to make even less sense for hobbyists/consumers?
