In general, life, if it is to endure, has to keep pushing its boundaries. Our current niche will surely end. Through stretching to build colonies in difficult places, hopefully we will become more robust. So it’s useful for explorers to go to places where they might just barely survive. As humans start moving beyond Earth, I think that it’s more likely that we change ourselves. We can probably make our bodies more tolerant of lower gravity and higher radiation.
