Councils move homeless families out of London with 24-hour ultimatum
- reify 2y agoA consequence of the right to buy council house sell of by Thatcher et al. No council houses left for poor families. Now the poor are stuck in long term hostels, bed and breakfasts or temporary housing. Even when councils build new homes for people to live in they still all come with a right to buy. You cannot blame the councils for trying to re-home desperate families in privately rented homes. Would you build a home for yourself, rent it out and then find the tenants had a right to buy it with a large discount off the market price?
