I switched to a unihertz jelly phone. I configured the screen to display in grayscale. It can do everything I need, but it's uncomfortable to use. The screen is tiny, it's a pain to type, etc. But if I really need to reply to an email it's entirely possible. Which is exactly what I wanted.
